Bell Potty Training Dogs

Question: How do you train a dog to ring a bell when she has to pee?
I have a 2 year old dog who is potty trained but she does not know how to communicate with me when she needs to go outside. She is potty trained and does not bark at all. What usually happens is she runs down in the basement when no one is looking and pees in the corner and then when let outside later does nothing. I bought a bell and attached it to the door so she can ring it when she has to go outside. What is the best way to go about training her to do this?
thanks captain obvious
Answer: It’s really simple to do.
Just hang the bell at the level of her NOSE … you want her to bump it with her nose, not paw at it.
And don’t YOU ring the bell … that’ll just teach her to wait by the door for you to come and ring the bell.
So, what you do is take her to the door, bump the bell with her nose and say whatever cue you give … “potty” or “outside” or “go pee” … whatever it is. Let her out, or take her out. And when she does her thing outside, give her praise … “Good Girl! Good Potty!” or “Good Outside!” or “Good Pee!” … just be consistent.
My half-a-brain Setter caught on to that trick in about 10 minutes. Which means yours will easily learn it in 5!
Dog Door Bell For Potty Training
I Cant Potty Train My Dog
Question: How can i potty train a nonstop barking dog that has no manners? -whose other wise an angel, lol?
ok. I’ve honestly tried everything my dog will not Go Potty Outside-he just wants to play. we have a kennel-and all he does is bark. i have 2 toddlers at home that i cant leave inside forever unsupervised when i take him out on the leash he will not go he just runs around. ive done everything-taking him out after he eats, drinks, wakes up. he will wait til he comes back in to “go”. ive been patient but hes over 6 months old the vet says there’s nothing wrong with him. ive ripped out my front room carpet and will not get a new one til this is resolved. can some one please tell me something that will work?—-that i haven’t already tried!! Thanx
Answer: You’re going to have do the same as me. Throw out the “but I feel bad when he cries” card and be firm! Crate him for a few hours immediatly after he eats/drinks, then take him out and walk him. If he goes give him about an hour play time in the house, let him eat/drink again and back in the crate few hours… It’s going to be hard, you will hear the poor guy whimper and want out, but unless you want to clean “dog mess” all over your home for the next 15 years, you have to do it..
Oh and, don’t panic, it won’t last long, couple weeks maybe. Dogs train rather quickly if they’re on a tight schedule. Once he’s trained, you won’t need the crate for anything more than traveling. Just pay attention to his signs when he has to go, barking, door scratching, may paw at you, etc.. you’ll know the signs.
good luck!
EDIT: I forgot to add why crate oops lol.. crating helps train them to hold their bladder and get on a schedule. Don’t crate train for more than a few hours (depending on age, 4 hours max for adult dog)
First Day home, potty training
Before Potty Training
Before you start potty training your dogs, take your dogs to a veterinarian…
Before you start potty training your dogs, you should take your dogs to a veterinarian. Only veterinarians can determine if your dogs does not have any health problem that will make potty training impossible. If your vet, through a regular veterinarian exam, found that your dog has a health problem, then you have not waste time potty training.
Soon after you first got your puppies, you should take your puppies to a vet. The vet will examine your puppies’ health and give them booster shots. You may have to bring your puppies back to the veterinarian’s office a few times to finish all the shots. This will ensure that your puppies are healthy.
After your dogs have seen a veterinarian, you can start potty training your dogs. You don’t have to wait until your dogs have had all the shots to start potty training. As long as the veterinarian has certified that your dogs are healthy, you can start the potty training process.
