Potty training starts with a small area
Many dogs owners want to be able to let
their dogs to roam their house but not eliminate on
the floor or carpet. This is possible but the owner must put a
lot of work into potty training the dogs. For small dog breeds,
like Bichon Frise, it is harder to potty train them that way.
But nothing is impossible.
If your ultimate goal is for your dogs to be
potty trained to not eliminate in as large an area as your
entire house, you must start by potty training your dogs to
not eliminate in a small area such as the area
the dog sleeps in.
Initially you may want to confine your dog
to a small area. Your dog might retaliate at first but
soon your dog will learn to live with the new environment.
Many dogs under confinement will soon learn to like the new
environment. Dogs will think of it as a safe place for
them to reside. If your dog protests at first,
do not come to his rescue. If you want your dog to be potty
trained, you must first teach him in a small area.
Once your dog gets it right in the small area, your
dog will be ready for potty training in a big area, your
house.
By confining your dog to a small area, you
are effectively creating a dog-safe zone which is an integral
part of dogs' potty training.
